SIUE completed a two-game sweep over the University of Nebraska at the John Breslow Ice Hockey Center.
On Friday night, SIUE battled through a tight contest that went into overtime. Nebraska struck first, putting early pressure on the Cougars, but SIUE responded in the second period with goals from Nathan Young and Ethan Cook, tying the game and forcing extra time. Both teams battled in a scoreless overtime, with chances on both ends, before Ethan Cook ultimately secured the win in the shootout. Goalie Wyatt Gottschall was a standout performer, making 52 crucial saves during regulation and OT, keeping the Cougars in the game and setting the tone for the series sweep.
Saturday, SIUE carried that momentum into a dominant performance, posting a 4-1 victory. Connor Hinterser led the offensive charge with a pair of goals, while Ethan Cook and Ryan LeJeune added insurance tallies. On the defensive side, Dalton Fitzgerald provided a strong backbone in net, turning aside 31 shots and limiting Nebraska to just a single goal. With standout contributions from multiple players, the Cougars were able to end the season on a high note.
